I had to show you a picture of these absolutely fabulous grapes I picked up at my local Raley's grocery store, they are HUGE!!!!! and yet still sweet and tasty and did I mention SEEDLESS I know the grape season is coming to an end at least for me anyway, I only buy food and produce from the United States, I am trying to make an effort to keep our country going in my own small way........I try to buy local produce at least from California as that is closest to us and therefore does not need to be trucked as far, I don't by fruit out of season from over seas, I really look forward to summer and the fresh tastes that it brings, at our house we have a long season of oranges, apples and pears......I remember when I was a little girl it used to be that way, you only got certain types of produce during their particular growing season.......going back to the old ways I guess.
I would love to hear your take on local produce, what is your favorite and how do you do it at your house.....an un-official vintagebejoyful blog pole, also let me know what you do to help your local economy, I would love some new ideas!
Hi Tracey, I try to do the same and buy "local" - just makes me feel better too. April - November my Saturday routine is to stop by my local Farmers Market and stock up for the week...so fresh and delicious. The folks that I buy from are so grateful and kind. I freeze some of the bounty (fruit & veggies) for winter.
I am in an area that has the best strawberries, peaches and apples - in season. In fact, we are leaving next week for the mts for apples - can't wait. My citrus comes from FLA & CA...no local growers here. Those grapes are huge and look so good. Thanks for sharing! Love, Anita

I try and buy all my produce from a local grocer that gets fresh vegtables and fruits from farmers in the area. I also try to stay in season as much as possible. I always look forward to that small window when the clementines are in the stores just around Christmas. They are wonderful and such a special treat during the holidays!
The avocados must be from California...they are just the best!

Oh yes I have always been local shopper, being self employed for 32 years I get the small biz owner. I shopped Raleys when it used to be eagle thrifty. I grew up in sparks and only went to reno once a month. Heck if your parents smoked they could send a note with you at 8 years old to buy them a pack. Times have changed, I will not order off the internet because I want my tax dollars here for my roads and schools. I have always been this way.... not because of the way I grew up.... but because i have always wanted to help my neighbor. So yes Tracey I do the same, charity starts at home.
41 taylor looks smashing with all your fall touches I am loving it!

Thanks for the props on our grapes!! Raley's has been a big supporter of our product, which as you know are the best grapes out there (I am biased of course!). Our vineyard is family owned and operated now in our 83rd harvest.
Thanks again,
Chris Caratan / Columbine Vineyards

Good for you! We live in a small city that used to be primarily orchards. There are still some struggling orchards left, of various fruits, so we try to support our local orchards by buying fruit from them in season. We love to do the U-pick thing as a family tradition. :)

What is your favorite unusual fruit?
What do you do with it? Where does it come from and where do you find it and what makes it unusual?

We just found these Holiday grapes at Whole Foods. I bought them because they were so interestingly huge and when we tasted them...wow...they are very sweet!! Thank you Columbine Vineyards.
